Chittagong: A Story of Courage and Revolution
In the 1930s, a rebellion started against British rule in Chittagong. Masterda Surya Sen led a group of young revolutionaries. Among them was 14-year-old Jhunku. At first, he was unsure, but later, he joined the fight.
On April 18, 1930, the revolutionaries attacked the Chittagong armory. They cut telephone and railway lines. For one day, Chittagong was free from British control. But soon, the British army attacked. The revolutionaries had to escape. Jhunku was caught and sent to Kala Pani prison for life.
Meanwhile, Pritilata Waddedar attacked a British club. She took her own life to avoid capture. Later, the British arrested Surya Sen. They hanged him.
In 1939, Jhunku was released. He joined the Tebhaga movement in 1945. He fought for farmers’ rights. In the end, people rose against British rule. The British were forced to leave. This was a big step toward India’s independence.
