Movie Story:
When Nagendra was a child, he went out in a palanquin with his mother. On the way, he saw some British men playing football. He had never seen this game before. He was amazed. His curiosity made him get down from the palanquin and go near the field.
At that moment, the ball rolled and stopped near his feet. One British man said, “This boy, come on, kick it.” Nagendra kicked the ball without any fear. That was the beginning of his football journey.
As he grew up, Nagendra became a great football player. His dream was to start his own football club and play at the international level. But the British rulers made it very difficult. British clubs tried to stop him many times. It was even hard to find a ground to play on. Local people were also scared to help him. The British did not want a Bengali to succeed in football.
The British were afraid. They thought if Bengalis won in sports, they might dream of freedom too. So they tried hard to stop Nagendra.
Golondaaj tells the story of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the father of Indian football. He was India’s first professional footballer and started a native football club. The film shows his courage, dreams, and strong will. It is a very inspiring movie.
