Story Summary:
Gafur is a rickshaw puller. He had three accidents in one week. Because of this, the rickshaw garage owner got angry and refused to give him a rickshaw. After much begging, and with the help of the owner’s wife, Gafur got another chance to drive a rickshaw.
Gafur’s wife works as a maid in other people’s houses. Their young daughter Jonaki goes to a madrasa every morning. Gafur and his wife drop her off before going to work and pick her up in the evening.
One evening, Gafur’s rickshaw crashes into a private car while he was going to pick up Jonaki. The car owner becomes very angry and beats Gafur badly.
That night, Jonaki falls very sick with a high fever. Gafur borrows money from the garage owner and takes her to a doctor. But the fever does not go down. Gafur also feels deeply hurt because he was beaten up in front of his daughter. After thinking for a long time, Gafur decides to kidnap the car owner.
