Nawab Sirajuddaula was a brave and bright young ruler. His full Persian name was Mirza Muhammad Sirajuddaula. He was born in 1733. At the age of 23, he became the Nawab of Bengal in 1756, after his grandfather Alivardi Khan. During his rule, Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha were under his control. He was the last independent Nawab of Bengal.
His rule was not easy. Many people in the palace were against him. There were conspiracies, betrayal, and threats from foreign powers. On June 23, 1757, the Battle of Plassey took place. Siraj lost the battle because of betrayal by Mir Jafar, Rai Durlabh, and others. The British East India Company, led by Robert Clive, took control of Bengal.
This defeat was the start of British rule in India. But Sirajuddaula’s bravery and fight are still remembered in history.
